How it feels to know you are going to be a dad

So, you’ve just found out that you are having a baby. You must be thinking…holy sh*t.

That was the first thought that popped into my head when my wife came into the bedroom and woke me up, shoving her pee-stained pregnancy test in my face with those two red lines.

But I had quickly realised that my wife was staring at me, so I had put on a big smile and hugged her.

Don’t get me wrong, I was certainly happy to find out she was pregnant. We had been trying for almost 2 years. But my mind had quickly turned into one of panic, thinking we were not prepared for a baby. Even more specifically, thinking that I, was not prepared for a baby – mentally, financially, physically.

And after talking to many friends who have become dads before me, most (if not all) have had the same feeling.

What I’m trying to say is that it’s totally normal and OK if you are also having these feelings right now.

And well, you have 2 choices.

Option One is to succumb to these feelings, start drinking yourself silly, distancing yourself and pulling back.

Or Option Two, you could embrace it. And get excited for this next (amazing) chapter in your life.

You are about to become a dad.

And there is no job more important, than being a dad. Being there to raise your child and prepare them for dealing with the world.

I decided to take option 2.

And I have created Dad Lyfe to help push you in that direction too. To help you become the dad you know you could be.

You’re not going to be perfect (I certainly am not), but you’re going to be the best goddamn dad you can be.

And it all starts now.
